NYC Month of Amazing High Tech Opportunities

April 14

The following events coming up in NYC during April have the potential to revolutionize the high tech community in New York.  The following list of events offers something to everyone from the recently laid off to the budding entrepreneur. From NYC Entrepreneur Week to Laid Off Camp 2009 have a look at these amazing offerings set to take the city by storm.

NY Startup Classic / CEA LineShow
NY Tech Meetup has partnered with the CEA to present the NY Startup
Classic, and offer NY Tech Meetup companies cheap table-top space at
the CEA LineShow in June. For the NY Startup Classic, the NYTM will
select 5 of the most promising companies that have presented at the NY
Tech Meetup, and offer them a chance to win free space at CES in 2010.
Additionally, all 5 of these companies will win free space at the CEA
Line Show in June, where all NY Tech Meetup companies (even those who
have never presented) can get table top space for a greatly reduced
price of $1,500 by mentioning the NY Tech Meetup. More info about the
CEA LineShow & Digital Downtown:

Digital Media MBA Career Event
In conjunction with Columbia Business School Career Services, and the
student run Technology Business Group and Media Management
Association, we’re trying to connect MBA students with the many career
opportunities available in the city’s digital media community!  Many
of these positions aren’t filled by traditional annual recruiting
cycles or are at smaller start-up organizations that might not be able
to do on-campus recruiting – so we’re having a downtown Digital Media
MBA Career Event.  It’s a special day to have companies interview and
hire students for current job openings, internships and projects, or
future needs. (We’re working around a networking event on April 14th –
Tuesday – at the Gansevoort Hotel in New York’s meatpacking district,
but we’ll arrange better times for the actual interviews, etc. if that
doesn’t work for you.)

LaidOffCampNY
LaidOffCampNY will take place May 1st and 2nd at Pace University. It’s
a free two-day event for people who are looking to gain perspective,
discover new passions, and/or reinvent their careers. Aimed at entry-
and mid-level digital media, advertising, publishing, technology and
financial services professionals. For more info:

Startup 2009
Silicon Alley Insider is presenting Startup 2009, a conference and
contest for Internet and digital startups on June 3. Apply by April 17
to be considered for $50,000 in grand prizes, and a chance to present
at the show. http://www.businessinsider.com/startup2009

NYC Seed
NYC Seed is running an 8 week summer program for teams to build a
product and launch a company.  NYC Seed will provide a small amount of
funding, as well as mentorship and technical guidance.  Requirements
are at least two founders in New York City who can demonstrate a
working prototype of their project.  To apply: www.nycseed.com and
mark your application “summer program.”

BootupNYC
In celebration of Mayor Bloomberg’s “11 Initiatives to Support New
York City’s Financial Services Sector
and Encourage Entrepreneurial
Activity” you’re invited to Boot Up! NYC. Boot Up! NYC will be held
during NYC Entrepreneur Week on April 22 at Webster Hall. A forty-five
minute informational session with presentations by the Coalition of
Office Space Providers (COSP), the New York City Economic Development
Corporation
(NYCEDC), NYU Polytechnic Institute, and New York Angels
will be included in a fun-filled evening of live music and drink
specials. Take this opportunity to receive valuable information,
network with other entrepreneurs, and enjoy live entertainment.

NYC Entrepreneur Week
The First Annual New York City Entrepreneur Week will be held the week
of April 20-24th, 2009. At the center of the week’s events is a
21-company business plan competition in which startups will leverage
the lessons learned during the week to win funding and pro bono
strategic guidance from a wide range of NYC service providers who will
help take their company to the next level. Just yesterday, NYC ENT was
formally endorsed by Global Entrepreneur Week, and subsequently the
Kauffman Foundation- giving the week a reach of 7MM people and 7500
organizations worldwide. More information regarding submission details
and guidelines can be found at
